Qatrah ("we", "us") makes a smart water tank monitoring system: sensors on your tanks, a gateway in your home, and the Qatrah app. This policy explains what information we collect when you use them, why, who it is shared with, how long we keep it, and how you can delete it.
1. What we collect
Your account. Your username, email address and password, and, if you choose to give them, your name and mobile number. Your password is stored only in a scrambled (hashed) form that no one, including us, can read. We also record when you accepted these terms.
Your properties and tanks. The names you give your properties and tanks, a property's address if you enter one, its time zone, and each tank's size and calibration.
Readings from your devices. Your sensors measure the water level in your tanks and send it through your gateway, with the time, temperature, battery level and signal strength. Each sensor and gateway has a hardware ID.
What we work out from the readings. Water usage, refills, possible leaks, forecasts of when a tank will run low, and the alerts we send you.
Your phone. To send you notifications we keep your phone's notification token, whether it is Android or iPhone, and the language you use the app in.
Technical information. The IP address of each request reaches our servers and their logs. We use it to protect accounts, for example to limit repeated wrong passwords.
Crash reports. If the app crashes or stops responding, it sends a report of what went wrong: your phone's model and system version, the app version, an ID for that installation of the app, and technical details of the error. Reports never include your password, your account details or your tanks' readings.
Messages you send us. If you contact us from the app, we keep your message, the email address we reply to, and, if you give them or are signed in, your name, mobile number and account.
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos or anything else on your phone, we do not show ads, and we do not sell your information.
2. Why we use it
- To run the service: show your tank levels and usage, and send you alerts about low water, refills, possible leaks, and devices that stop reporting.
- To keep your account secure: verify your email, reset your password, and stop attempts to guess passwords.
- To improve how accurately Qatrah measures water, using tank readings with nothing that identifies you.
- To answer you when you contact us, and to meet our legal obligations.
3. Who we share it with
We share information only with the companies that run parts of the service for us, and only what each one needs:
- Render, which hosts our servers;
- Supabase, which hosts our database;
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, which delivers notifications to your phone (it receives your notification token and the notification text);
- Resend, which sends the verification and password reset codes to your email, and passes the messages you send us from the app to our support inbox;
- Sentry, which alerts us when something goes wrong on our servers (it receives technical details of the error, which can include your account number or email address, but never your password);
- Google Firebase Crashlytics, which tells us when the app crashes (it receives the crash reports described above);
- Cloudflare, which runs our domain name and passes on the emails you send us.
Their servers may be outside Jordan. We may also disclose information if the law requires it. We do not share your information with anyone else.
4. How long we keep it
- Your account information: until you delete your account.
- Tank readings: 365 days, then they are deleted automatically. The daily usage totals and refill records worked out from them are kept.
- Sign-ins: each one expires after 30 days. Verification and reset codes expire within minutes and are then deleted.
- Server logs: kept by our hosting providers for a limited time.
- Crash reports: 90 days, then Firebase deletes them.
- Messages you send us: until you delete your account, or until you ask us to delete them.
5. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time, in the app or on our account deletion page, without the app. You can also email us to ask for it.
When your account is deleted, we immediately:
- erase your username, name, email, phone number and password, and the names and addresses of your properties;
- delete your alerts, your alert settings, the messages you sent us from the app and your phones' notification tokens, and sign you out on every device;
- release your sensors and gateways, so they can be paired to a new account.
Your tanks' readings and usage are kept with nothing that links them to you. The readings are deleted when they reach the 365-day limit above; the daily usage totals and refill records are kept, still with nothing that links them to you, to help improve how Qatrah measures water. Deletion cannot be undone.
6. Your choices and rights
You can see and correct your account details in the app, turn notifications off, and delete your account. You can also ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct or delete it, by emailing us.
7. Security
All connections to our servers are encrypted. Passwords and device keys are stored only in hashed form. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you.
8. Children
Qatrah is meant for adults managing their household's water. It is not directed at children under 18.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app and, where needed, ask you to accept it again.
